PANAJI: The Women’s Wing of the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), in collaboration with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), celebrated National Handloom Day on August 7 at the GCCI Surendrababu Timblo Convention Hall, Panaji.
Held under the theme “Honouring Tradition. Empowering Women. Weaving the Future,” the programme celebrated India’s rich handloom heritage and highlighted opportunities for women artisans and entrepreneurs.
Fashion designer and SUDHAROP founder Verma D’Mello delivered the keynote address, stressing the need to promote traditional textiles through entrepreneurship, innovation and contemporary approaches. She also offered work opportunities in the Kunbi sphere to women attending the programme.
GCCI Honorary Secretary Rohan Bhandare and NABARD General Manager Sandeep Dharkar presided over the function, with Rural Development Director Deepali Naik also present.
Women artisans showcased handloom products through stalls. GCCI Women’s Wing Chairperson Sandra Fernandes highlighted the importance of preserving weaving traditions while creating opportunities for artisans. The programme concluded with games for participants.
