MARGAO: GOACAN has launched a 60-day mobilisation campaign, ‘Seniors CAN’, to promote the civic and consumer rights of senior citizens in Goa. The campaign will conclude on October 1, World Elders Day.
GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins said the campaign will encourage senior citizens to organise themselves at the village panchayat and municipal levels and make use of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
The initiative will also promote the use of helplines, public hearings and legal forums, besides working with police to strengthen support for senior citizens and raise awareness on cybercrime. Students from Consumer Welfare Clubs and Free Legal Aid Cells will also participate in the awareness drive.
