PANAJI: Velim MLA Cruz Silva has welcomed the inclusion of Tiatr as the 56th element in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of India, describing it as a proud moment for Goa and Tiatrists worldwide. Silva said the recognition highlighted Tiatr’s importance to Goa’s culture, language, history and social consciousness. He urged the Goa government to officially declare August 13 as Tiatr Day and observe it annually to honour veteran Tiatrists, recognise contemporary artists and encourage young talent. He also called for stronger institutional and financial support, proper documentation and archiving, training for young artists, and improved infrastructure for rehearsals and performances. Silva thanked CM Pramod Sawant, Art and Culture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, the Tiatr Academy of Goa and the Tiatr community for their efforts.
