MARGAO: Jacinta Dias has been elected as the new Sarpanch of the Raia village panchayat. In the election held on Monday to fill the vacant post, Jacinta secured a narrow 6-5 victory over Xavier Fernandes. The election was necessitated after former Sarpanch Mario D’Souza resigned from the post.
Mario stepped down after a majority of panchayat members passed a no-confidence motion against the deputy Sarpanch. Jacinta becomes the fourth panchayat member to take charge as Sarpanch in the current term. Notably, former Sarpanch Judas Quadros held the post twice during this term.
