Calangute police have registered a case against an official of the Hindustan Waste Treatment Pvt. Ltd. on charges of releasing effluents from the Saligao Solid Waste Management Facility into a drain in the Saipem. The incident is reported to have taken place on August 17 at around 7.20 pm and Calangute police registered a case on the basis of a complaint by Digvijay Desai, General Manager of the Goa Waste Management Corporation, on August 21. According to the complaint, the effluents had been released from a tank of the project into a nearby drain, thereby posing a health hazard in the area. The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway under the guidance of Police Inspector Paresh Naik.
