In the name of development, Goa has seen much deforestation in the past few years and this has compelled the wild animals and reptiles to come out of their habitat and take shelter in people’s homes. More and more incidents of wild animals attacking and destroying the crops are experienced, especially in the near-forest areas across the State. Similarly, reptiles like crocodiles and snakes too, are visible in the human habitat. “It was observed that due to the deforestation for making Walshi/Bordem bypass road, snakes living in and around the same area have been affected and they are seen escaping,” says Amrut Singh, chief, Animal Rescue Squad, Goa. Pointing out that not all the time these wild animals and reptiles cause harm to the humans, Singh shares a recent incident where a harmless Forten’s Cat snake was found sitting on the window of a home belonging to a local, Raju Kudaskar in the nearby housing board. “When a call came from Kudaskar regarding the snake, my daughter Akshata Singh answered the call and rescued the snake which was later released in the natural habitat,” shared Singh who posted the video of the rescue operation on social media for awareness.
