MSC forced to change venue of Diwali event

MARGAO
Claiming that the Margao Municipal Council has rejected the application for use of the Lohia Maidan to organise competitions during the ensuing Diwali festivities, the Shadow Council for Margao has announced that a fancy dress competition and diya decoration competition on November 11 will be held at an alternate venue, at Casa Aliados Hall, behind Gomant Vidya Niketan in Margao.

Addressing the media along with Snehal Onskar, Lalan Parsekar and others, SCM convener Savio Coutinho stated that the Lohia Maidan was finalised as the venue for the competitions after booking it by paying the charges along with a security deposit. “While the application for booking of Lohia Maidan was made on October 31, the payment of Rs 3,500 was made on November 3. As such we proceeded with making arrangements for the event,” Coutinho said.

He added: “On 7th afternoon, I received calls from two ruling councillors alerting me that our booking is likely to be canceled. As such, I visited the Council and got to know from the concerned clerk that a letter of rejection was being posted to me,” Coutinho said.
