Talk on organ donation held at St Britto’s HS

PANAJI
Gabriel from the MOHAN Foundation spoke on organ donation at St Britto’s High School in Mapusa, on January 19. Gabriel, a former student of the institution, introduced the MOHAN Foundation, whose 25 years of enthralling work concluded this year. He described how to obtain an organ donor card while applying for or renewing a driver’s licence by marking the appropriate box on Form 2 indicating a willingness to be a donor. Gabriel questioned the pupils about the number of transplant centres in Goa. He then shared that in Goa, there are just three hospitals that exclusively perform kidney transplants.

Dr Amol Mahaldar, coordinator for the IMA Goa Organ Donation Cell and an ex-student of the school, gave a brief presentation on organ donation and answered questions from the students. At the end, Gabriel showed a short video on brain death and “Live Beyond Life,” a short animated presentation on organ donation by Shweta Gupta. He also gave out fliers of the Foundation to the students and teachers.

Around 150 students from class 10th, including ex-principals Fr Abrahim Painakullum, Fr Simon D’Mello (Principal), and Fr Anand D’Souza, and teachers Premanand Viagankar, Ian Pinto, and Shankar Govekar, attended the session.
