Nearly two weeks after a violent assault at Calangute beach, which later claimed the life of a 29-year-old man, Calangute Police have arrested three persons and booked them for murder and robbery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to police, the offence was registered on Monday night following a complaint lodged by 20-year-old Shaikh Sohel, a resident of Naikawado, Calangute, and a native of Maharashtra. The complaint states that on July 18, at around 2 pm, the victim, Shaikh Sameer (29), was allegedly assaulted by the accused – identified as Raymond Howse alias ‘Rambo’ (36), Arjun Naik (22), and Meharban Khan (61) – along with their associates at Calangute beach. Police said the accused allegedly attacked Sameer with the intention of robbing him of his mobile phone and other valuables, causing grievous injuries. Following the complaint, Calangute Police registered a case under Sections 309(2) (robbery), 103(1) (murder), read with Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The three accused have been arrested and produced before the court, which remanded them to seven days of police custody for further investigation. Police Inspector Laxmi Amonkar is investigating.
