MARGAO: Chandor Club beat Ambelim Sports Club 2-1 to move to the quarter-finals of the 22nd Bro Eulalio Vaz Memorial football tournament, organised by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda ground, on Tuesday.
Ambelim scored the fastest goal of the tournament in the first minutes of play through Velroy Rebello surprising the Chandor players.
Chandor regrouped and played attacking football but had to wait till the 23rd minute to find the equaliser through Alreach Peixito with a powerful header off Joaquim Carvalho's assist.
Post resumption, Chandor created chances but the Ambelim defence stood firm. In the 43rd minute, Nash Pinto of Ambelim handled the ball in the danger area resulting in a penalty kick which was well converted by Chandor's Rizben Fernandes to make it 2-1.
Joaquim Carvalho of Chandor Club was declared as the man of the match and awarded by DBO Fatorda member Cyril.
