A driver sustained injuries after a goods carrier transporting milk from Mapusa to Siolim rammed into the compound wall of a house on the Marna–Siolim road near the Siolim Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the early hours of Monday.
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred after the driver allegedly dozed off while behind the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The goods carrier veered off the road before crashing into the compound wall of a nearby residence. The impact caused extensive damage to the front portion of the vehicle.
Personnel from the Mapusa Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the scene after receiving an alert and rescued the injured driver from the damaged vehicle. He was administered first aid and shifted to the Siolim PHC for medical treatment. His condition is stated to be stable. Fire officials said the timely response by the rescue team helped in safely extricating the driver and preventing any further complications.
No other persons were injured in the incident, and no damage was reported to adjoining properties apart from the compound wall. Police visited the accident site to carry out a panchanama and ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that driver fatigue may have led to the self-accident, though further investigation is underway.
