Former bureaucrat and socio-political figure Elvis Gomes from Cuncolim Goa was on Saturday conferred with the All India Catholic Union (AICU) Centenary Civil National Award 2026 for his outstanding contributions to public service. The prestigious honor was presented during a special session following the Annual General Body Meeting of the AICU—Asia’s oldest lay Catholic organization—at the Don Bosco Provincial House in New Delhi. The award, which includes an official trophy, citation, cash prize, and ceremonial shawl, was presented jointly by Bishop Ignatius, Tamil Nadu MLA Leena Rose, and other distinguished dignitaries. Gomes's nomination was backed by the Catholic Association of Goa and the Goa Prison Ministry, which highlighted his pioneering reformative and rehabilitation initiatives for prison inmates during his administrative career. The award marks a national recognition of dedicated civil leadership and transformative public governance.
