Mahesh Gawande has been elected unopposed as sarpanch of Velguem in Sankhali constituency. The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Govind Gaonkar and election for the new sarpanch was conducted on Tuesday.
Since Gawande was the lone panch to file a nomination, he was elected unopposed by Returning Officer Navnath Amre, who was assisted by Panchayat Secretary Nitin Shet.
Others present at the meeting included Mukesh Ghatwal, Unnatti Sahasrbudhe, Govind Goankar, Kedar Ghadi, Durgadas Naik and Samanta Kamat.
Gawande assured to work for the all round development of the village.
Later, the new sarpanch and panchas met Chief Minister and local MLA Pramod Sawant at the Secretariat and Sawant congratulated Gawande on his election.
While assuring support to the development of Velguem, Sawant advised Gawande to implement the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goa mission in Velguem village.
