MARGAO: To mark World Consumer Rights Day, GOACAN and Green Essentials are launching the first-ever ‘Homegrown & Homemade Market’ in Nuvem, focusing on seasonal, fresh, and local produce.
The market will be held at Laban de Souza’s Farm on the Nuvem-Arlem Bypass from 3 pm to 7 pm, providing a platform for vendors and buyers to connect. The initiative aligns with the 2025 theme, ‘A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles’, aiming to promote an alternative food system in Goa that supports safer, fresher, and locally preferred food while reducing waste and pollution.
GOACAN Secretary Lorna Fernandes highlighted that the market would strengthen farmer-consumer connections, improve food quality, and help preserve local food culture. Green Essentials founder Yogita Mehra pointed out the challenges of the current food system, dominated by large traders and supermarket chains, which often limit consumer choices.
Beyond buying fresh produce and homemade products, visitors can interact with producers and explore opportunities for making the market a regular event.
