Goans paved the way for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Karnataka and Kerala after migrating there due to religious conversions in Goa during the Portuguese rule, claimed Dr Bhushan Bhave. He was speaking on a book ‘Bhatkanti’, an autobiography written by Prof L Shridhar Bhat in Margao. The book was released by noted Goan writer Adv Uday Bhembre.
In his book the 95-year-old author narrates his lifelong journey from Goa to Karnataka at the age of 15. He writes about the social and personal struggles he went through in seeking education. The book also mentions his association with Mahatma Gandhi’s Hindi Prachar Sabha, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).
Dr Bhave also mentioned Ranga Hari, one of the founders of RSS in Kerala who hails from GSB Konkani community and headed the organisation as Boudhik Pramukh at national level. “There were many Konkani people in Karnataka like Shridhar Bhat, who also worked tirelessly to strengthen the movement of Hindutva,” Bhave added.
