1 held for theft of cables in Parra

MAPUSA: One person has been arrested in connection with the theft of 36 boxes of electrical cables worth Rs 2 lakh from a construction project at Aradi-Parra.

This incident is reported to have taken place sometime between Sunday and Monday.

The contractor of the construction project had brought the electrical cables required for the project, when 36 boxes of electrical cables worth Rs 2 lakh comprising 20 boxes of 6 mm cables and 16 boxes of 4 mm cables were stolen.

Acting on a complaint, Mapusa Police arrested Manju Basappa Lamani under Section 380 of IPC. The police seized a car used in the theft and recovered 10 boxes of electrical cables from the accused.

PSI Bablo Parab is conducting further investigation under the guidance of Police Inspector Paresh Naik.

2 mobile phones stolen from Margao apartment

MARGAO: Two mobile phones were stolen from an apartment in Margao on Tuesday morning. The incident took place when the resident was cooking breakfast in the kitchen.

An unknown number of miscreants entered the apartment from the from the front door and stole the phones kept for charging. The two phones, belonging to the victim and her son, are valued at Rs 60,000. Notably, the police had initially refused to register a complaint of theft but relented upon the insistence of the victim.

Quepem resident booked for sexual assault

MARGAO: Margao police has booked a resident of Quepem for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy.

According to victim’s father, who is the complainant, the incident took place August when the accused touched the victim inappropriately several times. The police said that the accused has been booked under relevant sections.

Orchid awards for women achievers at Panaji

PANAJI: As part of the 10th edition celebration of the Orchid Award of Women Achievers of Goa, two life-time achievement awards will be given along with the annual ‘Women Achievers’ awards in various categories like education, art and culture, sports, social work, journalism, business, rural development, girl child prodigy.

The programme will be held on November 17 at Panaji Convention Centre in the presence of Sulakshana Sawant at 6.45 pm.

GEC student conferred Francis memorial award  

PANAJI: Shri Krishna Balaji Muthu Pillai who scored 90.73% and stood first in BE (E&E) Deparment, GEC, Farmagudi, was conferred Engineer Francis Bomdin Lopes Memorial Award. Along with the award, Pillai was given a sum of Rs 10,000 and a citation. He intends to pursue MBA in Finance in the future.

SP Shobhit Saxena relieved of duty

PANAJIA fortnight after the Ministry of Home Affairs transferred Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Shobhit Saxena to Jammu and Kashmir, the Goa government on Wednesday ordered relieving him from the State Administration. The order comes into effect from November 22, 2022 in order to join his new place of posting. SP (Crime Branch) Nidhin Valsan has been given the charge of North SP along with his present post.
