Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) and Mission Rabies have announced a month-long sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination drive across four panchayats of Assolna, Velim, Ambelim, and Chinchinim in Velim constituency.
Launching on September 28 to coincide with World Rabies Day, this large-scale humanitarian and animal welfare initiative will run until October 24 for free.
An inauguration ceremony will be held on September 30 at 11 am, and the public is invited to show their support to this initiative.
“A highly skilled team of veterinary professionals, including vet surgeons, vet assistants, dog catchers and animal handlers, will be working in the region. The team will conduct high-volume, high-standard catching, surgical sterilisation, and anti-rabies vaccination of community dogs as well as owned Indie dogs,” said Dr Stacy Sequeira, Director of WVS HICKS Goa.
“This intensive campaign is designed to humanely manage the local street dog population, significantly reduce human–street dog conflict, and create a safer, rabies-free environment for local residents.”
Dr Sequeira said all 4 Panchayats and Panch members have expressed strong support for the initiative, urging residents to cooperate with the field teams during the month-long operation.
“Sterilisation and vaccination services under this campaign are being provided entirely free of cost. Dog owners and community dog feeders in Assolna, Velim, Ambelim and Chinchinim are encouraged to bring forward community dogs or report unsterilised street dogs to help maximise the camp's reach and impact.
