CANACONA
A stretch of highway passing through Mashem, Poinguinim, Ordhfond and Chaudi in Canacona will be closed for all heavy vehicular traffic at Mashem for three months from February 1 on account of the reconstruction of the old Mashem bridge.
“As such, heavy vehicular traffic will be diverted via the “Canacona bypass” on NH-66,” states a press note by the Department of Information and Publicity.
Sources informed The Goan that due to the closure of the 1 km stretch of the old highway, heavy vehicles taking the old highway route from Char-rasta and Chaudi will be allowed only up to Poinguinim. “Heavy vehicular traffic proceeding from the Polem border check post towards Gaondongrim, Khotigao, Poinguinim and Canacona Industrial Estate will have to take the route via the Canacona bypass, before taking the old existing NH-66 road at Char-rasta,” a source said.
