The Pilerne-Marra panchayat conducted fogging in Nova Cidade Enclave and PDA colonies of Porvorim to prevent spread of dengue and malaria cases. Speaking to The Goan, Pilerne Panch Karan Govenkar said four dengue cases and two malaria cases were recently detected in PDA colony of Pilerne-Marra Panchayat.
“Hence in association with the Primary Health Centres at Saligao and Porvorim, we conducted fumigation in Nova Cidade Enclave and PDA colonies, while also spraying anti-larval medicine in areas where stagnant water was found,” said Govenkar.Fumigation operations were supervised by officials of the health department.“Panchayat members also advised residents in both areas to maintain cleanliness of their residential areas and not to allow the water to stagnate in used tyres, coconut shells, etc. which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes,” said Govenkar.
