Residents of Davorlim on Monday questioned the quality of the work being carried out on construction of a drain in the village, with the angry locals claiming that no sand has been used in concrete for construction of the drain.

Concrete is a composite material which is composed of coarse and fine aggregate bounded together with cement paste and mixed with water that hardens with time.

In fact, the enraged residents demanded that an inquiry be instituted into the shoddy work that is going on in construction of the drain while they wondered if the construction would stand the test of time as no sand has been used in concrete mix.

“How can the contractor execute the project without using sand in concrete? Instead of sand, we have found some powder being used in the work that has been going in the village”, the residents complained.

While demanding an immediate inquiry into the quality of work, the residents demanded that the concerned officials take a look at the ongoing construction work and initiate appropriate action.

The local ward member told the media that the work is being carried out by the PWD and not by the Panchayat body. The member said it is for the PWD engineers to inquire into the views expressed by the local residents.
