The rakhis, symbol of affection and trust, are tied by sisters on the wrists of their brothers in want of protection in times of crises. The festival was observed on Narali Poornima day (August 22) across India, however in a special programme to be held on August 26 and 27 at Himachal Pradesh, rakhis made by special children from Goa will be tied to Indian Army jawans. The rakhis made by special children from Mokhard Canacona were handed over to Rajendra Arlekar, Governor, Himachal Pradesh by retired teacher Kamlakar Mhalshi.
Balram Shikshan Saunstha and Chaitanya Pratisthan have taken the initiative of getting the rakhis made by special children from their homes, as schools are closed. The training to make rakhis was given online to these students and the material was handed over too, by the teachers. These special rakhis will now reach Himachal Pradesh, to the India-China border, and be tied to the Indian soldiers deputed in that area.
