CANACONA
Stating that the Goa Forward Party has tentatively finalised candidates in 12 constituencies, the party general secretary Mohandas Lolienkar said the party will begin to work full-time for the people of Canacona and will open a permanent office in Chaudi on Saturday.
“The Goa Forward Party office will not only will be for the upcoming elections, it will remain as a permanent office to assist people in various types of works,” said Lolienkar at a news conference on Tuesday.
He said GFP supremo Vijay Sardessai, Working President Kiran Khandolkar, MLAs Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vinod Palyekar will be present during the inauguration of the office and will later visit parts of the constituency.
“We have been promoting a candidate for Canacona with the only intention to defeat BJP's plan to return to power. We have also tentatively finalised candidates in 12 constituencies and we looking for an alliance with Congress party, especially since Congress President Sonia Gandhi is trying hard to form an alliance with like-minded parties to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.”
Asked what would be the position of Goa Forward Party if Congress insists on the Canacona constituency for its candidate amid claims that it has a 9,000 voter base in Canacona, Lolienkar replied: “We will see when the time comes. We already have our candidate finalised for Canacona to take on the communal BJP and we can win the seat.”
GFP leader Prashant Naik said the party will take up several issues in Canacona, including net connectivity for students, job opportunities by reviving the Canacona Industrial Estate.
Naik accused the government of ignoring the narrow highway at Karmalghat, which has led to many accidents in the area.
“Accidents at the Karmalghat had frequently disrupted traffic on the highway and it takes hours to get a crane service. The government must place a crane at the Canacona Police Station to respond quickly to mishaps in the taluka,” he said. GFP Canacona leader Umesh Tubki was also present at the news conference.
