People from different parts of Vasco protested at the Vasco KTC bus stand and blamed Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida's failure to complete the bus stand project in his two terms as MLA, despite heading the Kadamba Transport Corporation.
Speaking at the protest meeting, a resident, Mamta Tari, said the main reason for their protest was the lack of development in Vasco.
"Almeida has won two successive elections but there has been no development in Vasco. We have had enough and while people of Vasco are struggling with dust pollution and potholed roads, the legislator is doing nothing,” said Tari.
“The KTC bus stand is the biggest example of this lack of development. Despite heading the KTC, Almeida has been unable to complete the new bus stand project for several years.”
“Besides, there is no proper frequency of buses in the bus stand and students are forced to wait for hours for buses, causing concern among parents."
Another resident, Siddharth Kaskar, said residents of Vasco were being fooled all the time.
“There are no proper roads and the new bus stand project never seems to be taken up. Almeida has said around 80 percent of piling works have been completed, but why can't we we be told how much of the project is complete?”
Karishma Chari, another resident, said the bus stand premises had turned into a hub for anti-social activities.
"I have been travelling between Vasco and Panaji since the last eight years and we face a lot of inconvenience. There is no place to park our bikes and even if we park our bikes, the vehicle is full of dust by the time we return as the roads around the bus stand are full of potholes.”
“Sometimes when we return late, the entire area is dark and deserted and a lot of people are seen drinking beer. It is scary to arrive at this place in the evening because there is no security or proper illumination," said Chari.
