MARGAO: Sporting Club Davorlim ousted USC Seraulim 5-4 via the tie-breaker to enter the quarter-finals of the Joao Francisco Fernandes Memorial inter-village football tournament, organised by UBD Colva, at St John de Baptista football ground, Benaulim, on Saturday.
USC Seraulim with some promising youngsters made a bright start but teenage striker Shashank Shanke wasted two easy sitters. Davorlim were unable to contain the speedy runs of rival strikers. USC Seraulim surged ahead when a long ball from the deep by Floscio Fernandes was well controlled by Shashank Shanke who set up Nayab Khan who found the net with a neat placement past Davorlim goalkeeper Avin Vales in the 21st minute.
Davorlim came back straight after resumption and got the equaliser in the 43rd minute when Seraulim medio Oliver D’Souza handled the ball inside the area and the resultant spot kick was easily converted by William Niasso. Davorlim was the better team for the remaining part of the match and almost snatched the winner in the dying moments by William Niasso power-packed shot which struck the post.
