St Thomas parish, Aldona marked the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and India’s 78th Independence Day on August 15 at an evening titled “Somudayanchea Ekvottachi Sanz”. The theme chosen for the event was: “Yatrekaram ami bhovanxeachim, porgottnnaram zaum-ia bore khobrechim”. It was a real treat to witness the floats depicting the days of creation, Noah’s Ark, miracles of Jesus and the healings done by Jesus Christ. The theme song specially composed for the occasion by the Parish Vicar Fr Tomas Lobo and sung by the children’s choir the 'Sweet voices’ conveyed a strong message. Homemade sweets like patolleo, pudde, latodd, kheer, ale-bele, xirvoyeo prepared by the Somudais were a real treat. Fruit/vegetable carving, wild flowers presentation with biblical quotes which were on display enriched those present. Bible Housie was also conducted. Live music by the band ‘APY' comprising of the Aldona Parish Youth kept the feet of many tapping to the beat of Goan traditional Konkani songs and English numbers. Tokens were presented at the hands of the Parish Vicar Fr Tomas Lobo, Asst Parish Priest Fr Agnel Simoes, Chaplains and religious. PPC Moderator Ronald Victoria proposed the vote of thanks. Angel and Selvin anchored the programme.
