Union wants min wages hiked amid pandemic

The Goa United Workmen Union (GUWU) on Saturday appealed to the Minister of Labour and Employment Jennifer Monseratte to double the minimum wage rates of workers considering the pandemic.

"The wage rates should be increased by 100% from Rs 307 to Rs 614 considering the inflation index and pandemic,” GUWU President Olencio Simoes.

Simoes also appealed to the health minister to prioritise vaccination drives to all factories employees as they are more exposed to congregating at the workplace and are easily susceptible to Covid-19.
