Pernem police have arrested Bishu Kharia (29), a native of Jharkhand but residing at Chopdem-Pernem on charges of illegal sand extraction. Pernem PI Jivba Dalvi said a police team on patrol found the accused extracting sand in a canoe from the Chapora river on Sunday evening.
The canoe was seized and taken into custody, while an FIR was registered under Section 4 of Goa Minor Minerals Concession rules and Section 379 IPC.The accused has been lodged in police lockup and further investigation is in progress.
