In a tragic incident, 42 goats belonging to a resident of Sadolxem-Canacona were crushed under a train near the Gulem tunnel on Thursday evening.
According to sources, the incident took place at about 6.15 pm when the herd of over 100 goats were being brought back from a forested area behind Hotel Sudarshan in Gulem and were reportedly crossing the railway tracks. A train appeared from the Gulem tunnel and struck the goats, killing 42 of them on the spot, even as other goats scurried in all directions.
The herd owner could do nothing to prevent his goats from getting crushed by the moving train and later desperately tried to save the injured goats.
