Based on a tip-off, a Calangute police team led by PI Nolasco Raposo raided the Candolim villa and apprehended all the accused.
The five accused, Raju Singh (25), Mohit Kumar (21), Ravi Mamtani (30 years) and Sagar Rathore all from Rajasthan and Suraj Soni (8), a resident of Nepal, were arrested for contravening Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa Public Gambling Act.
All the accused were later released on bail after furnishing a surety of Rs 10,000 each.The police team that conducted the raid also included PSI Vikas Deykar, Police Constables Vinay Shrivastav, Suresh Naik and Sunil Mhalsekar (driver).
It is the first crackdown on cricket betting in the State since the IPL season got underway in the United Arab Emirates. Calangute police are investigating further.
