CANACONA: The Department of History of Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College, Canacona, organised the Arya History Club Investiture Ceremony with historian and environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar as Chief Guest.
The programme began with a ceremonial welcome for the Chief Guest and Principal Dr Rupa Chari, followed by the lighting of the lamp and the Arya Anthem by the college choir. Head of the Department of History, Assoc Prof Domitel D’Souza, delivered the introductory note.
The event featured the pageantry of the Arya Executive Committee, display of club paraphernalia, and a symbolic ‘Abhishek’ ceremony for Arya President Sharmila Sorang. Other members ” Shreya Dhuri, Shaina Gaonkar, Supriya Velip, Bhakti Velip, Neha Jagi, Anushka Pagi, Saniya Naik Gaunkar, Shravani Pednekar and Veloni Dias ” were formally invested with their roles through the donning of headgear.
Dr Chari administered the oath to the newly elected members and explained the club’s philosophy, followed by the reading of the proclamation ‘Sanad’.
In his address, Kerkar spoke about Canacona’s rich blend of natural beauty, spiritual traditions, and historical resilience. He emphasised the importance of cultural heritage in shaping identity and urged youth to view history as a guide for building an inclusive and sustainable future.
The event was planned by Assoc Prof Domitel D’Souza, coordinated by Assistant Professors Shibani Pagi and Arantxa Colaco, with compering by Pagi and a vote of thanks by Colaco.
