VERNA: Around 300 students of Agnel Polytechnic, Verna, attended an organ donation awareness programme conducted by MOHAN Foundation’s Organ Donation Ambassador Gabriel Pereira on July 29 and 30.
Pereira, whose interest in the cause began after a family member received a life-saving transplant, explained the types of death, organs and tissues that can be donated, and the clinical and legal aspects of brain stem death. He told students that in Goa, only kidney and corneal transplants are currently performed.
The interactive sessions included short videos on brain death, the work of MOHAN Foundation, and the story of bilateral hand transplant recipient Shreya Siddanagowder. Pereira also highlighted that July is Organ Donation Month, ending with Indian Organ Donation Day on August 3, and shared the trailer of the film Aye Zindagi.
He thanked Principal Dr Rickey TP Nunes for the opportunity to hold the event, which was attended by students along with their class teachers.
