St Xavier’s students learn paddy farming in Curtorim
Students of Std VI and IX gained hands-on experience in traditional rice cultivation.

CURTORIM: St Xavier’s Institute, Curtorim organised an educational paddy field trip for students of Std VI and IX to give them practical exposure to agriculture. The visit took place at a field in Maina Curtorim, where students observed and participated in the transplantation of paddy crops.

Headmistress Melania G. Da Costa e Vas, along with teachers Santana Galdinho, Gretina Azavedo, Abigail Rodrigues and Mathew Fernandes, accompanied the group. Local farmers guided the students through the stages of paddy cultivation, including planting of saplings.

Students enthusiastically stepped into the muddy fields, experiencing first-hand the work involved in rice production. Farmers also shared insights on traditional farming practices, linking classroom learning to real-life methods.

The trip concluded with a reflection session, where students and teachers discussed their experiences, making the day both enjoyable and educational.
