Caltech scholar to deliver cosmology lecture in Panaji

Harshda Saxena, alumni of IIT Mumbai will deliver an interactive talk on History of Scientific Discoveries - pertaining to Cosmology and also a career guidance section on how to get into astronomy research in India and abroad and ongoing missions in the field. Harshda has researched about black holes, specifically on the Intermediate Mass Black Hole discovery by the LIGO-VIRGO and also done programmes at ETH Zurich in Switzerland and Heidelberg University, Germany.  Her research specifically centres on developing an analytical theory for describing the structure of galaxies and galaxy clusters in the universe. Currently, she is pursuing astrophysics and cosmology as a PhD student at California Institute of Technology, USA (CALTECH). Her research focus involves galaxy clusters, and what they tell us about the constituents of our universe. Students, Youth and people specifically desiring to take a carrier in astronomy will be much benefited by this session. The program is open for all age groups and will be held from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday, December 17 at the Public Astronomical Observatory at Junta House, Panaji.

Nagpur man drowns at Patnem beach

CANACONA A 32-year-old man from Nagpur drowned while swimming in the sea off Patnem. According to Canacona police, Pranay Thool along with family members had gone to Patnem beach on Thursday. Thool went for a swim when he began struggling in the sea. He was brought ashore and rushed to the Canacona Community Health Centre in a 108 ambulance, where the doctor on duty declared him dead on arrival.
