The Calangute Constituency Forum has demanded that the Calangute panchayat be directed to hold gram sabhas in the village which was stopped during the lockdown and due to the fear of spread of Covid-19 disease.
The forum members said they were aware that it was not appropriate to conduct the gram sabha due to the Covid-19 situation, but now the government has declared and unlocked the state administrative services as well as holding of social gatherings within the MHA norms.
They further said that some panchayats have already conducted gram sabhas in the interest of the village.
“We request you to direct the sarpanch of Calangute panchayat to call for the gram sabha pending for the month of April and July under Section 5 (1) of Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994,” said Clotildes Braganca in a letter addressed to the director of panchayat and the block development officer.
The forum members also demanded the inclusion of annual statement of accounts of 2019-20, annual administrative report, audit report of the panchayat and development works and other programmes proposed for the current year.
