The District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) of North Goa organised a 'Women's Mental Health Programme' at Mapusa. The event specifically catered to the women of self-help groups from Pernem and Bardez, aiming to address and improve their mental well-being.
The programme was attended by Dr Vithoba Gaude, Principal of the Goa State Health and Family Welfare, and Vaishnavi Parab, Bardez Block Coordinator, among others.
DMHP psychiatrist Dr Tanvi Pednekar spoke about the mental health challenges faced by women. "Today, women are working alongside men in every field, yet they continue to face unique challenges such as family responsibilities, workplace pressures, physical illnesses, and violence. These stressors can lead to mental health issues like depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment problems, hormonal imbalances, and menstrual disorders. Therefore, it is vital for women to prioritise self-care, love themselves, and cultivate personal hobbies to manage stress effectively," she advised.
The programme featured interactive sessions led by psychologist Durga Chari and psychiatric social worker Pravin Chavan. The sessions included mindfulness exercises and relaxation therapies designed to equip women with practical tools for managing stress and enhancing their mental health. The event concluded with a series of activities focused on mental health, leaving the participants with valuable insights and techniques to better manage their mental well-being.
