The 40th Sarvajanik Durga Puja Utsav celebrated in Panaji for years by Bengali Sanskrutik Sanghatana has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year, stated a press release issued by the executive committee of the Utsav. The committee members discussed the matter with their president Srinivas Dhempe and came to a conclusion that the celebration should be cancelled owing to the safety of thousands of devotees and members of the committee.
Every year artists and artisans, pandits and pujaris who travel from West Bengal to Goa to participate in the festival, will have to suffer financial losses with the cancellation of celebration, thus it has been decided that they will be compensated from the funds spent on entertainment programmes.
