With the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) dragging its feet to tender the wholesale fish market sopo collection contract, a citizen Malcum Agnelo Pereira has made a proposal to the PDA to issue him the sopo collection contract, promising to pay to the SGPDA an amount of Rs 11.99 lakh every month.
In a letter addressed to the SGPDA Member Secretary, Pereira has also expressed his willingness to keep the security deposit of Rs 11.99 lakh with the PDA, further promising to take care of the market cleanliness and also pay the electricity bills.
Pereira’s letter may put the PDA in a tight spot and may raise legal issues, more so given that the SGPDA had been found wanting in tendering the wholesale fish market sopo fee collection contract for over a decade.
Sources in the know pointed out that Pereira told PDA officials that he may have no option than to knock the doors of the High Court seeking directions to the SGPDA to float a tender at the earliest and to plug leakage of revenue.
The Goan understands that though the SGPDA had at the September 29 meeting resolved to set in motion the process to tender the sopo fee collection contractor, the ground reality, however, remains unchanged till date.
