Konkani author Adwait Chandrakant Salgaonkar encouraged students to embrace their mother tongue and write in their mother tongue during a visit to HPSM's Ganpat Parsekar College of Education in Arambol.

Salgaonkar, recipient of the 2024 Sahitya Akademi Youth Literature Award for his essay collection 'Pednyacha Samaran', spoke as a guest speaker at a programme, 'Lekhak Viddyarthyanchya Bhetek', organised by the college.

The event, organised by the Harmal Panchakroshi Shikshan Mandal in association with the Goa Konkani Academy and the college’s Konkani Department, aimed to promote Konkani language and literature among students of Ganpat Parsekar College and Harmal Panchakroshi Higher Secondary School.

Salgaonkar stressed the importance of using one's mother tongue without hesitation and urged students to create literary works in Konkani.  “Don’t be ashamed to speak your mother tongue,” he said, emphasising its significance.

Vaishali V Parab, in-charge of the Konkani Department, welcomed the guests to throw open the session. College Principal Dr Pandurag Pandit also shared his views on the importance of Konkani. Salgaonkar was presented with a souvenir.

A lively interactive session followed, allowing students to engage with the author and express their thoughts and questions. The session was moderated by Assistant Professor Akanksha Bicholkar, and Assistant Professor Hemal P Chowgule delivered the vote of thanks.
