PANAJIDr Charles Dias, ex-MP and President of the Federation of Anglo-Indian Associations (FAIAI) in India, along with Chaplain for Anglo-Indians Fr Nicholas Dias met President of the Council of Catholic Bishops in India (CCBI) and Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao at the Archbishop's House in Panaji on Friday. The two leaders congratulated Cardinal Ferrao on being elevated as Cardinal and briefed him of the progress made in relation to the Anglo-Indians issues. They sought the help and support of Cardinal Ferrao in identifying and reorganising Anglo-Indians in various parishes in the country. They stated that the representations in Parliament and State Legislatures for Anglo-Indians were snatched away by the central government’s attitude on the pretext that “according to census report of 2011 the number of Anglo-Indians are only 296 and they are well off .”The Federation of Anglo-Indian Associations in India is on an effort to conduct a survey to ascertain the number of Anglo-Indians in the country.Following the intervention of Fr Dias, who is originally from Goa and working in the Delhi Archdiocese, several Anglo-Indians have been identified in the Archdiocese of Delhi, and the Federation wants the support of CCBI to extend this into other areas of the country.
