Goa Multi-faculty College holds talk on legal aid services

Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora recently organised a talk on ‘Free Legal Aid Services,’ to commemorate Legal Services Day to create awareness and also to promote and emphasise the availability and accessibility of various legal services which are available for the benefit of the common man, particularly those belonging to marginalised communities or facing socio-economic challenges.

Resource person, Advocate Ishwar Kuttikar, who is associated with the Taluka Legal Aid Committee of Sangeum Court, highlighted various steps to resolve domestic disputes and explained the procedure to file a formal complaint to create a paper trail. He touched upon certain safeguards provided in the Domestic Violence Act and informed that the BDO is the Protection Officer in such cases.

Further, he spoke about the ‘Welfare & Maintenance of Parents & Senior Citizens Act,’ which, he said, protects the best interest of parents even after they have transferred assets over to their children and informed that the Taluka Legal Aid Services can be approached for resolution of issues.
