Panaji: Coventry-based filmmaker of Goan origin, Ashford Menezes, has had three of his works selected for major UK film festivals this autumn. His projects span faith-based themes and social issues. His debut short film God is Good, made in Dubai in 2015, will be screened at the Sheffield Christian Film & Media Festival on 18 October.
The film highlights the enduring message of God’s goodness. Echoes of Truth, a video series combining scripture reflections with poetic visuals, has also been selected for the same festival. His documentary series Scams Unmasked is competing at the Birmingham Film Festival, the largest film and media event in the West Midlands. It has been nominated for Best Online Content, the Audience Award, and the Bull Award.
The screening is on 15 November at Millennium Point, with winners announced on 22 November. Ashford’s career began in Goa with the Konkani film Ghutt in 2007. He later worked in Bollywood before moving to the UK in 2020.
Inspired by his banking experience during the pandemic, he created Scams Unmasked.
