The team from Community Health Centre Bicholim along with health officer Dr Medha Salkar visited the flood affected area at Sal village in Bicholim to do fogging and spraying. Sarpanch Ghanashyam Raut, other panch members and villagers were present on the occasion. While Rama and Sajjan sprayed, CHC team Pratibha and Shivaji distributed the ORS packets and tablets in the surrounding homes. “In view of the flood, there may be fever outbreaks in the coming weeks and health conditions such as gastroenteritis cases may be witnessed in the community, especially children. There is also a possibility of fever cases due to leptospirosis, malaria and dengue as well as vector-borne outbreaks,” warned Dr Medha Salkar and asked the people to be alert. The doctor advised the people to keep adequate supply of commonly used and essential medicines like paracetamol and ORS in their homes. These medicines are also available at all sub centres and if required, they will be made available in the flood affected areas, too, informed Dr Salkar. In case of a fever outbreak the people are advised to inform CHC immediately, so that the staff will visit the affected areas and take necessary precautions like fogging and spraying. Health check-up camps will also be conducted in the affected areas, informed the doctor.
