Interaction on Women's Empowerment Bill on Oct 23 at Panaji

PANAJI

Women's Empowerment Project (WEP) has drafted a memorandum which will be lobbied among various political groupings and an interaction will be held by the team of NCHRO activists in Panaji on October 23. “NCHRO-WEP also seeks to raise public consciousness about other issues of gender justice - notably heightening violence against women in Goa. In the last five years alone, we have a record of 75 deaths due to rape. There are also many reported and unreported of violence against women,” states Ranjan Solomon, president, NCHRO- Goa Unit. Solomon adds, “We believe that the media's role in highlighting the serious fault of a 30-year delay in passing the Bill in parliament could be very crucial. Our demand has been ‘Women's Empowerment Bill - Pass it now’!  The media also can also contribute significantly to shifting perceptions about wider issues of gender justice/participation of women.”
