Former Panaji mayor Tony Rodrigues, who recently broke off from the husband-wife Monserrate duo and joined the Congress ostensibly to contest the upcoming assembly election against one of them, on Wednesday lodged a complaint before forest officials over the hill cutting incident at Taleigao alleging environmental destruction.
"I state that an illegal construction of road/access and hill cutting is ongoing at Satismo Wado on the main road after Asha mahal, besides Supremo building on the right-hand side of the road leading from Taleigao Church towards Soi hotel,” Rodrigues said in his complaint, accusing 'unknown culprits'.
Rodrigues claimed he discovered that an access road is being built by cutting a Hill, which is almost 15 metres wide and vertically inclined.
"There is also a house/bungalow built at the site, and its construction is underway," Rodrigues said, adding that it acts only as private access to the house which is under construction.
Rodrigues alleged that the panchayat and local representatives have turned a blind eye to the illegality.
Rodrigues has demanded that the Forest Department take immediate steps to stop this illegality.
