Stating that the State has made good progress in achieving the Swayampurna Goem target, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually interact with Goans on October 23 in an attempt to review the programme.

“Goa is inching towards the Swayampurna Goem target. Even during the Covid-19 crisis, we have managed to keep pace with the programme. We may have not achieved 100 per cent target but we have noticed a visible change in the fields of horticulture, agriculture, pisciculture, etc.,” Sawant said.

He said the prime minister will hold a virtual communication with seven persons, which include a sarpanch, a chairperson, four Swayampurna Mitras and a beneficiary on October 23 at 11 am.

He further stated he would give the welcome speech after the address of the chief secretary, which will be followed by a short film on Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goem and then, PM Modi will directly address the seven persons.

“For the first time after launching the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme, the prime minister is interacting with the people at the State level. It is a proud moment for Goans. Everyone should watch the programme directly live,” Sawant said.

He said arrangements will be made to show the programme live at the various Ravindra Bhavans at Sankhali, Curchorem and Margao and the Kala Mandir in Ponda.

“The programme will also be shown live on-screen at main bus stands. Our target is to ensure that maximum people can take part in the programme,” he said.

He further said every panchayat and municipality should also screen the programme and encourage the public to watch the programme.

Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said after launching the Swayampurna Goem programme, different departments started interacting with one another, which was not happening earlier, and thereby, the government could reach out to all people in becoming self-reliant.

“It’s a beautiful tuning between the Centre and the State. The PM is directly connecting with the people of Goa. No other PM in the past has ever interacted directly with the people,” Godinho said.
