MES College of Arts & Commerce has been conferred with the Clean Goa Award, constituted by Dr Asha V Sawardekar through the Sanjeevan Society for Youth Development in revered memory of “Kirti Chakra Awardee Wing Commander Late Vishwanath B Sawardekar. The college won the award under the Institution category. This award is to felicitate and appreciate Individuals/NGOs/Educational institutions/Panchayats/Municipalities that are successfully carrying out effective waste management in the State.
The college has constantly endeavoured to spread awareness among its students and the members of the community. Waste generated on the campus is segregated into degradable and non-degradable waste. The dry waste is further segregated into three categories -- paper and cardboard, plastic, glass and metal -- and then handed over to the Goa Waste Management Corporation for recycling. The wet waste generated on the campus is successfully treated using the vermicomposting unit which was established in the year 2008.
