The Directorate of Education has issued a circular to all government, government-aided, and recognised schools, instructing them to start the academic year for Classes VI to X and XII from April. This follows the New Education Policy. However, CBSE and ICSE schools are already following this system. To implement this change, schools will have to conduct yearly exams earlier to declare results on time and determine student promotions. Goa has yet to adopt the no-detention policy, so it will take time to introduce.
Headmasters and teachers have welcomed the decision, as it will allow more time to complete the curriculum without rushing. Classes will continue until 11:30 AM until the end of April, followed by summer vacation from 1st May to 3rd June. Regular classes will resume on 4th June. The schedule takes into account the intense summer heat during April and May.
This change will give students and teachers enough time for better learning and completion of the syllabus. The implementation is expected to benefit all. With all other holidays remaining unchanged, this move is seen as a positive step.
