MARGAO: Parish Youth Nuvem secured a dominant 4-0 victory over United Club of Benaulim to advance to the quarterfinals of the UCT Trophy Inter-Village 9-a-Side Football Tournament, organized by United Club of Telaulim and played at the Government Primary School Ground, Telaulim, on Tuesday.
The match saw a brace from both Francisco Colaco and Joywin Costa, with Colaco scoring in each half to lead his team to victory.
The match began with Parish Youth Nuvem controlling possession, holding 65-70% of the ball. Francisco Colaco opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a well-placed shot after being fed by Niclau Colaco. United Club of Benaulim had a chance to equalize shortly after when Swisten Rebello sent in a cross from the left wing that was deflected by the Nuvem defense, resulting in a corner.
Nuvem responded with a counter-attack before halftime, when Schubert Colaco sent a through ball to Joywin Costa, who skillfully beat the defense and goalkeeper to place the ball into the far corner, giving Nuvem a 2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Josbern Fernandes of Benaulim had a chance to pull one back, but his powerful shot was brilliantly saved by the Nuvem goalkeeper diving to his right to clear the ball for a corner.
In the final quarter, Nuvem extended their lead with two more goals. In the 40th minute, Francisco Colaco completed his brace with a solo effort, making it 3-0. Just before the final whistle, Joywin Costa sealed the win with his second goal, bringing the score to 4-0.
Francisco Colaco was named Man of the Match for his standout performance and brace, receiving the award from Anthony Pires.
