In a bid to reduce the number of Covid cases in the area, the Porvorim Primary Health Centre (PHC) has appealed to members of the Penha da Franca panchayat to create awareness on safety measures to ensure that people minimise the risk of getting infected with the virus.
At a meeting with panch members of Penha de Franca at the Nana-Nani Park to discuss about Covid-19 issues, Porvorim PHC Health Officer Dr Roshan Nazareth said some people had been seen either without face masks in open space, while some were found not maintaining social distancing while purchasing groceries at shops.
Panch members were asked to focus on educating the people and impressing upon them the importance of SOPs issued by the health department.
They were also asked to create awareness among public about the importance of face masks, social distancing and sanitising with liquid soaps and sanitisers to prevent infection of coronavirus.
Those present at the meeting included Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Dy Sarpanch Manisha Naik, panchas Gurunath Vernekar, Savita Naik, Safar Fadte, Shalu Gupta, Gabriel Vaz and Shamsundar.
Dr Nazareth outlined the symptoms and various stages of Covid-19, the system of sanitising areas, testing protocols and importance of counselling to Covid patients on telephones.
Extension Educator Anupama Dukle spoke on various aspects of Covid infection.
All panch members later took a pledge, read out by Dr Kanaiya Sirsat, to be united in the fight against Covid.
