PIL filed in High Court over woes faced by Covid patients' kin at GMC

PANAJI

AAP Convenor Rahul Mhambre has filed a Public Interest Litigation in reference to the long-pending issues being faced by the relatives of the patients admitted at the Covid wards of the GMC super-specialty block. This petition was filed in his individual capacity on June 1 at the Goa bench of the  High Court of Bombay, says a press release.

The prayers made in the petition were related to various issues such as the non-availability of drinking water for relatives, lack of privacy screens for patients, the restriction on bringing home-cooked food into the facility, the necessity for seating arrangements and charging points for relatives, the condition of toilets, and other requirements such as photocopy machine, which were all creating great inconvenience and added distress to the Covid patients and their relatives, the press release adds.

The  High Court heard the matter on June 2 and passed an interim order requiring the Govt to take immediate steps on three urgent issues relating to drinking water, privacy screens and seating arrangements. The petition will come up for further orders on June 10.
